Chair of Contemporary History

Research Assistant

Julia Reus has been a research assistant at the Chair of Contemporary History since 2023. Her research interests include the history of the family, sexuality and childhood. Before joining the team of Prof. Isabel Heinemann at the University of Bayreuth, she studied History and Comparative Literature at the Ruhr-University Bochum where she received her B.A. and M.A. Then she worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Contemporary History in Bochum (Prof. Constantin Goschler), where she also taught classes. Her dissertation investigates perceptions and ideas of family, reproduction and sexuality through the analysis of incest in the Federal Republic of Germany. Debates on incests show how kinship as a social norm and category between social and biological belonging was challenged by changing moral, cultural and legal norms. The research is part of a DFG-funded research project on precarious kinship (led by Prof. Goschler/Prof. Kössler).
